Such delays are not helping

Just to give you feedback regarding the new artwork that I’ve been working on since April this year.

I had one specific big name gallery in mind when I was working on the new paintings, and visited three of their galleries to view the standard of artwork and knew that my paintings were equal in technical quality to the other artwork they had, and that the subject matter is something that their customers would find appealing. I submitted six of my paintings to their online submission form on 13th June. And sat back and waited, and waited, and waited. Since I had not heard anything from them after 7 weeks I rang their office on 3rd August 2017 to see if they had received the artwork and was informed that submissions were taking 8 weeks to respond to. I rang again on 21st August since it was then 10 weeks since I had submitted my artwork and was told by the woman I spoke to that she would check and get back to me. By 25th August I had still not had a reply so I rang again and spoke to someone else who explained that he was unable to help me either until he heard from the submissions department.

So, I was still unaware of whether they actually had the artwork, or not, since I had no acknowledgment of receipt of the artwork. And it seemed the people who made the decisions were not the people who I was speaking to.

I thought at that point that the gallery seemed very unhelpful in responses, or replies, or information!

So then I emailed them on 25th August to try and find out at least if they had actually received my artwork.

It took until Wednesday 6th September before I got an email back saying that they hadn’t had my online submission due to a power-cut but if could resend my images again, they would view them this week and give me a response. (I was somewhat annoyed at this point at having wasted 12 whole weeks to hear this!!) but sent them a polite email back saying that I was disappointed to hear that and looked forward to their response when they had them.

The following day I had an email thanking me for giving them the opportunity to see some samples of my artwork, but after careful consideration they feel that although they think the work is of a high standard, the images were not suitable for the current requirements of their portfolio. I sent an email back thanking them for that response and asking for any feedback they could give me since I was informed earlier this year by one of their gallery sales assistants that I could ask for more specific feedback as to why they found the images not suitable, to-date, I haven’t had a reply to that request, and am not holding my breath to get one!!

So that’s the summing up of the last twelve weeks of waiting. Lots of waiting!!!

I know that the artwork is technically artistically good enough for that particular gallery.

But if they don’t want it, then I will look for the next gallery…
